1 The Shadow

Breathe in...

Breathe out...

Breathe in...

Breathe out...

Such was the mantra that repeated itself through Kaleb's mind as he hefted the heavy body in his arms. It once belonged to General Xuzhou, of the Ionian military, not of much use with a careful blade wound to the carotid artery, and lifeless in his arms. Kaleb slowly lifted the body off the ground, heavy with the armor still worn, grunting as he attempted to lift the body off the wooden window rail to dispose of it.

The job was complete, with only a minor detail he missed before accepting the mission.

The general's abode was five stories off the ground.

Now between a thousand soldiers and falling to certain death, he had quite the challenge in getting the fully grown man onto the ground without attracting attention and into his carriage for disposal.

Kaleb carefully attached a rope to the nearby tree, fastening it onto a major branch before looping it around the metal window sill and tying the dead general to it by the waist.

He hopped off the window sill onto the tree, and undid the rope, holding on tight, and praying to Kall that the large body would make no noise on the way down. His muscles tensed as the general left the window, the only thing keeping his body from plummeting to the ground being the strong rope that was still looped over the window sill.

Little by little, Kaleb allowed the body to be lowered onto the grass, sweat beading his forehead due to the strain.

Breathe in...

Breathe out...

Breathe in...

Breathe out...

He blinked back down to the body, landing on his feet, only to find himself metres away from an unwary soldier.

He immediately ducked behind the wall, eyes wide, and heartbeat thundering in his ears, yet remaining completely still. He refused yo move a muscle, waiting for what seemed like an eternity.

Breathe IN..!

before he heard the swig of a bottle, and dared a peek beyond the wall. With only the nearby fireplace and Mother Luna for light, he could make out the outline of a slouched body, liquor bottle in hand, and empty bottle littering the area, alone.

Breathe out...

A drunk soldier was probably the least of his worries, but he prayed his superiors never found out of his... addiction. For he knew how SHE would react if she found out about HIS.

He slowly undid the general's armor, all except the breastplate, which proved too much of a hassle to remove, before hefting the much lighter body off the ground, and over his shoulder. But ahead of his was another 30 yards of land and guards, and he still had alot of ground to cover.

This was going to be a long night.
